[Note: These are the program notes we wrote for the Official Best in the West Program. We know for a fact that many of the team profiles were edited to save space in the program. So, we thought we'd at least make some use of the original material by posting it up here. Additionally, with some of these teams, we've already done previews here at SoCalHoops, and where they exist, we'll link to them.

Archbishop Mitty HS (San Jose, CA): The big news on this team is sophomore, Brandon Worthy (6'-2" So. PG/SG), one of the most talented players in the Bay Area. Coached by Mike Willard, Archbishop Mitty competes in the West Catholic Athletic League with St. Ignatius and Bellarmine Prep, and all three are here at the Best in the West. Last season, Mitty finished 17-10 overall, and took third the WCAL, which was good enough to get them to the Central Coast Section's D-III playoffs where they ultimately made it to the semifinals . This year they're looking for more and better, and they'll count on Worthy & Co to help them get there. How good was Worthy? As a freshman he was named to the 2nd Team All-Central Coast CIF, was named Freshman of the Year, selected WCAL 1st Team, and he also holds almost every scoring record from last year, leading the league in points and in steals. But it's not all about Worthy. At the other guard spot is Darryl Scott (6'-0" Sr. G), a quick defender who likes to penetrate and dish. Greg Smith (6'-0" Sr. G) will also be someone to watch along with the heady Steve Christensen (6'-2" Jr. SG/SF) and Danny Arias (6'-0" Sr. SG/SF) who will be counted on for his defensive ability. Zach Smith (5'-11" Sr. SG/SF) is an excellent shooter, as are both Chris Hayes (6'-3" Jr. SG/SF) and Steve Cotton (6'-2" So. SG/SF). On the wings will be two year varsity player Christopher Sandman (6'-7" Jr. SF), Juaune Armon (6'-3" Sr. F) and John Miller (6'-2" Sr. F). Up front, Mitty has Jeremy Denzel (6'-9" Sr. C) a solid athlete, Machaune Armon (6'-5" Jr. F/C) an interior scorer, and David Toomey (6'-2" Sr. F/C) a strong football player being recruited at the college level as a lineman.
