[Note: These are the program notes we wrote for the Official Best in the West Program. We know for a fact that many of the team profiles were edited to save space in the program. So, we thought we'd at least make some use of the original material by posting it up here. Additionally, with some of these teams, we've already done previews here at SoCalHoops, and where they exist, we'll link to them. |
Washington HS (Los Angeles, CA): Coach Andy Davis' Generals wound up last season seeded No. 4 in the LA City Championship bracket, 15-9 overal and 8-2 in the old Marine League and wound up beating a tough very Chatsworth team in the first round of last year's playoffs. They then ran into No. 2 seed Manual Arts which meant the end of Washington's run through the playoffs. But this season, Davis is hoping for more and better and he thinks he's got the personnel to get it done. This season they return star point guard Antoine Parker (5'-10" Jr. PG) who is a lightning quick ballhandler and a team leader. Wayne Chamberlain (6'-5" So. SF) will play the interior rebounding and shooting. David Warsaw (5'-11" Jr. SG) is a pure slasher who understands game and can get to the basket and score. Julian Taylor (6'-3" Jr. SG/SF) will play the three, and he's a transfer from LB Poly. Eugene Moore (6'-7" Sr. PF) will play the post, and he's one of the best players on the team, with long arms and is a big shotblocker. Wyshawn Wade (6'-1" Jr. SG/SF) will run the wing in a three guard offense, and he's a great rebounder. Willie Asbury (6'-1" Jr. SG) is largely untested yet. Cedric Smith (5'-9" Fr. PG) will be an outstanding penetrator and passer as he matures. Corey Lowe (6'-5" Fr. PF) a transfer from Oakland Fremont, is raw but has lots of potential. Rashod Nash (6'-4" Sr. PF/SF) could be one of the top rebounders. Look for Jacquon Morrison (5'-9" Jr. PG) to backup Antoine at the point--he's quick too, one of the top track runners in the City. Julius Clayton (6'-2" Sr. SG) is a tenacious defender, while Charles Allgood (5'-11" Sr. SG/PG), also a football player, could be the best athlete on the team. Three others may also see some time: Wyshawn Wade (6'-1" Jr. F), Harry Holmes (6'-1" Sr. F) and Aluis Hamilton (6'-0" Sr. F). Washington could do some damage in the Best in the West with some of their athletic guard play and inside game. Here's the full roster:
