I have been covering sports for many years now mainly in the LA area and Ventura county. This year Ive noticed shifts in this league. Someone please enlighten me if I missed something. It’s always been Ventura and Buena battling for the top spot along with Santa Barbara. They have all had multiple players go on to become college basketball players including division 1 players and some even playing professionally.

Now Oxnard and Dos Pueblos are the top 2 teams heading into this weeks big matchups but not by much. I’ve never heard of Dos Pueblos being in the running for a league title in this channel league. Do they have a lot of transfers? New coach? Oxnard narrowly beat Dos Pueblos by 6 last week. Ventura beat Buena by an even smaller amount winning by 3. Dos Pueblos beat Ventura by 1 earlier in the year. Santa Barbara is at the bottom of the league with 0 wins. And I believe they still have the same coach. And San Marcos doesn’t look like the team they were the last 2 years and I believe they have the same coach as well.

This weeks matchups should be some good ones to watch if you live within the area. Oxnard plays Ventura Tuesday in a battle of styles from what I’ve seen. Oxnard is a tough physical team that plays hard and take advantage of the new foul rule with fouls resetting every quarter and they play well together, Ventura is a traditional/old school type of team that will run clock to get a high percentage shot and is disciplined with their scheme. Ventura coach is very experienced has been coaching for a while now. That should be a good back and forth game. Toughness Vs Discipline

Dos Pueblos faces off against Buena on Tuesday. Buena has 2 elite scorers the game I watched. I doubt any team can slow them down with their abilities to score. Oxnard beat them earlier in the year but one of them didn’t play maybe injured or transfer? Dos Pueblos has a strong fast pace offense and they play good defense. Dos Pueblos was fun to watch when I seen them play with how they shared the ball. I think it will be a battle between 2 elite scorers with a couple good roll players Vs a solid all around team.

Is Oxnard and Dos Pueblos success this season coming to an end in facing the leagues traditional top teams? Or are they really the real deal? We will find out Tuesday. Next write up will be about my possible pics for Open division.
