: : : What can be done to stop teams from dropping from a high school basketball tourney days before it starts. It puts unneeded pressure on host coaches to find another team, some schools want free even though teams who paid early don't get free games, and right now there are different schools on this site looking for "just one team needed."
: : : Should the school names who dropped be posted for creating hardship on the host schools? Maybe schools wouldn't let them in their tourney in the futuire? Suggestions? Please keep it respectful.
: : According to the rules in the Blue book you can disagree with the cancellation.
: : Also see rule 151.3
: : All that being said, I have had schools cancel on me because they have been unable to field a team that day. This usually happens with small schools at the start of the season.
: I run tournaments. The contract use helps if you end up needing them to forfeit. Sometimes they will come play when you let them know it will be a forfeit since the schedule is made. I just say if I cant find a team to replace then it will be a forfeit.
I have recently started not allowing schools to return to my events when they pull that, but yes it is frustrating to work on something for months, and then because of what is normally a pretty silly reason, a team drops last minute. I know a lot of travel events are put together much more loosely and schedules come out just a few days before the event starts, so perhaps some coaches that only have that experience don't quite understand that it doesn't really work that way with HS events? Either way, stress caused because of the late drops is frustrating to say the least.
