Thank you to Rosemead, San Bernardino and South Hills high school girls basketball teams for stuffing 514 grocery bags with drinks, fruit, snacks and food for homeless people!
In a show of sportsmanship the teams recently gathered at Rosemead High School gym a few miles east of downtown Los Angeles and with major donations from Bimbo Bakery, and Northgate Markets and other sponsors Dollar Tree, Grocery Outlet, PetSmart, Snackfast Vending, and U-Haul, the teams packed the bags into 68 large boxes.
Greater Los Angeles Holy Tabernacle Church from Watts then distributed the 514 bags of food to homeless people in Los Angeles, South Gate, Watts, and Orange County.
Thank you to these teams for caring about others helping homeless people with food and fun snacks that brought many smiles to the recipients!
Other high school teams are encouraged to do the same in their communities. Our next one will be in January in "bare cupboard month" when many food pantries and community services programs don't have much food to hand out because so much was given for the December holidays.
Plenty of time for schools to get together with another school or two and plan a great community service project!
Also thank you to local businesses Bimbo Bakery, Jim's Famous Burgers, Pizza Cart and Rosemead Donuts for donating lunch for the volunteer players, coaches and families for all three schools! A totally volunteer day!
Good luck everyone, have a great summer of learning and fun!
