: Can a high school coach pay players to film their games/practices?
Do you mean can a high school coach pay someone to film practice if the person doing the filming is also on the roster of the team the coach coaches?
I think that if the payment for doing a job is not compensation paid to a players based on his or her athletic performance (such as playing the game or participating in a practice on the court) then I don't see why a person who is essentially just doing the same job as any other student the coach might hire, cannot be paid to do the same job. You're talking about operating a camera, not paying someone for their athletic skill, which could be a problem under the CIF and NFHS rules.
The CIF rule on amateurism restricts high school athletes from receiving compensation for PLAYING. There's no prohibition against a high school athlete having a JOB and receiving payment for doing a JOB.
And with the whole NIL (Name, Image and Likeness) being a thing now, even the old prohibition against an amateur player receiving compensation that might have, in years past, constituted a violation, is now really open to question.
