: : : CIF should of left the divisional format as it was. Every two years you move up or down. Trying to make things more balanced and competitive. It is up the the high schools to make better decisions hiring AD's and coaches. IT is that simple. AD's hire their friends or retreads, that is the schools issue for them being inept, not CIF to be Mommy. This is what these schools have chosen.
: : : Just winning friends and influencing people.
: : There is always a complaint and no system is perfect. People were mad when they took away the school size component and went to the every 2 year system. The truth is that the reason this tweak to the current system had to happen is because of the recruiting taking place nowadays. Every year you get these brand new teams with all transfers that cake walk a lower division. They arent good enough for the open division but should be at least D3 but end up in D4 or D5. Now all those teams get to play teams at their level, which is how it should be.
: : The downfall is the bottom couple divisions are going to be really bad, just like in Football where all the teams have had bad or below average seasons but squeak into the playoffs and suddenly one of them is a champion with the best season in school history.
: There should be SOME component of enrollment involved. There are schools of over 2,000 students playing schools of 200 students in division 5 playoffs. The system rewards big schools that have bad programs. The system punishes good programs. There are programs that don't recruit and just work hard to compete with the stronger programs and their reward is to be put in the higher divisions and get bounced every year in the first or second round of playoffs. Bad leagues love competitive equity because it makes them feel like they are actually winning CIF championships in the bottom divisions when they are actually being gifted championships that really don't mean anything other than you are really bad and that is why you are playing in division 5. Rings don't mean what they used to. Division 5 rings aren't going to small schools that deserve them. They are going to bigger schools that should be playing in higher divisions.
So you prefer when Price would win D5 with every game being a 40+ blowout then a possibly competitive game?
If you go back to 2017 (when it started) you'll see that when small schools end up playing bigger schools in D5 games...the smaller schools have a winning record.
