Coach Johnson is undoubtedly passionate and committed to his teams. In two years, he built a culture at Santa Ana High School that will leave a lasting impression for the next few years. If you had the chance to see some of their games this year, you’ll see that Coach Johnson brought out the very best of his players. Outside his 2-3 top players, Coach Johnson had some guys playing above their skill level.
He does a great job of pushing players to perform beyond their perceived limitations through his ability to get guys to buy into his philosophy and resonate with his coaching style. His players must love him. I was at an away game, and his alumni players from the past season packed the stands to support their coach and the team. You often don’t see 7-8 former players show up to a random away game on a Thursday night at any school.
Except for the occasional anonymous posts on here from his 1-2 haters, many coaches in Orange County likely have nothing negative to say about Johnson. He’s generally a great guy.
