: Recently picked up my kid after practice and noticed three teammates walking to the auxiliary gym with the assistant coach. "Where are they going?" "They're getting extra training with Coach." "Why aren't you going?" "Their parents pay him for the training sessions."

: I'm grateful I can afford to pay for training. Some on the team cannot. There seems to be an ethical issue here. Is this legal in the CIF? The coach is receiving money from a parent mid season. Isn't he motivated to continue this revenue stream by showing "results" to the parent? Isn't this perhaps a way a parent can pay for playing time? (This assistant has that influence). Can it be trusted that the coach is making decisions based on merit and not who is feeding his wallet?

: It seems there should be a rule against this just so there is no confusion as to a coach's motivation. Can anyone tell me if such a rule exists? Appreciate any conversation on the topic. Maybe I should start paying him as well.

Assistants are paid pennies for their work. In exchange for their time, the HC or AD might offer them gym time for free or at a discounted rate. I wouldn't be overly upset or suspicious of his training services for other players..instead, I'd be curious to partake. Ask for pricing, it might be affordable! Put that work in and stop complaining.
