SoCal Prep Recruiting Report & News
UNLV Gets One Away from Bibby (October 26, 1997)
Bill Bayno's UNLV team got a verbal committment from one of the nation's best JC players, Shawn Marion (6'-7" F) from Vincennes University, (a JC) located in Indiana. He has agreed to sign a letter of intent in November. Marion averaged 23.2 points per game, and chose UNLV instead of USC, Arizona, Kentucky, Kansas, and (surprise surprise) Cincinnati, which is having its own troubles lately. Marion has reportedly considered going to the NBA after one year at UNLV, and according to published reports, Marion reportedly has said he talked abou this with Bayno, but that "Bayno is cool with it.". Marion, one of the leading JC players last year has a very nice outside shot, a good drive to the hole, nice first step, and can play tenacious defense.
Ah, another USC recruit going somewhere else. Bibby can really use Jed Hall now. Or somebody. Anybody. Even Jason Thomas, as a walk-on.
