SoCal Prep Recruiting Report & News

Jed Hall, James Spatt and Other Local Stuff--October 21, 1997

The Los Angeles Times this morning reports that Fullcourt Press, the recruiting service newsletter has ranked Jed Hall (6'-8" PF/C) of Montclair Prep in Van Nuys as one of this year's top 10 senior "post/forward" players in California. Not a big surprise either for those of you who've seen this transfer from Virginia play. And word is that Jed, who was "home schooled" until this year, has a "little" brother who's almost as big, who will be coming to Montclair next year after Jed graduates. Fullcourt Press described Hall as a "very underrated athlete and solid rebounder that [sic--should be "who"] can score with consistency in the paint". Yes he can. Berumen from Simi can attest to that too. Hall so far, at least according to Fullcourt Press, is being recruited by Washington, Washington State, USC, Harvard and Cal (just in case Braun doesn't get Gadzuric, and if Lavin puts on a press, it's likely he'll go to UCLA).

In other news, the Times also reports that Crespi center James Spatt is scheduled to have knee surgery on October 31, but expects to be back at full strength by the start of the season when Crespi will take on Mater Dei in it's opener.

The Daily News today also reported that Germain Chase, a 6'-7" forward from Valley College has committed to attend Montana State, according to Valley's coach, Doug Michaelson. Damon Ollie, formerly of North Hollywood High and now at Montana State was said to have hosted Chase during his official visit.
