Gary Gillman Sees the Rainbow--(October 29, 1997)
Gary Gillman (6'-4" SF, Cuesta College JC) who played at Morro Bay High School, has committed to the University of Hawaii, and will sign a letter of intent on November 12, 1997.
Gillman was aided in his decision by Hawaii assistant Jackson Wheeler and former Rainbow Danny Furlong, both of whom played high school ball at Morro Bay. Gillman played at Morro Bay during 1994-96, and averaged 23.3 points during his three year high school career, and was the San Luis Obispo County "Player of the Year" in 1996. He played at Cuesta College last season, where he averaged a team-high 14.2 ppg, 3.2 rebounds, and 1.4 assists.
He will sit out this current season while he is enrolled part-time at Cuesta in order to preserve three more years of eligibility at Hawaii. He had considered playing this season again at Cuesta, but opted for the three years of play at a D-I school; he would have been required to redshirt at UH had he transferred this year anyway.
Gilman was also being recruited by UNLV, Central Connecticut and the University of Hartford.
