Ruben Douglas: The Daily Snooze Naps Again
October 11, 1997
The Daily News reported in Saturday's edition that Bell-Jeff Sr. PG/SG Ruben Douglas, one of the most highly regarded players in this year's class, will make official visits to four schools starting this weekend at the University of Oregon. The Daily News also reported that:
"Next week Douglas will be at the University of Arizona during the Wildcats Midnight Madness festivities. The following week he'll visits Syracuse and then he'll wrap up his trips at Kentucky a week later. Douglas has already visited New Mexico."
Interesting news, huh? Yeah, but once again, the Snooze article isn't the first place this story surfaced.
Compare the above quote with the following which appeared at Michael Miller's West Coast Hoops three days earlier (on October 8):
"Ruben Douglas, 6-4 SR PG/SG Burbank Bellarmine-Jefferson, who has already visited New Mexico, has set his final 4 official visits: Oregon, Arizona, on Midnight Madness , Syracuse, Kentucky .
"For those wondering, UCLA apparently made a last-ditch effort to um, well, do something... what, I'm not sure exactly. Apparently they called Ruben and said "We love you." Oh, and "If you wait until Spring, we might have a scholarship available." Isn't that special? Ruben thought so too. He's signing this Fall with one of the above-listed schools."
Gotta applaud the Daily News on this though, at least they're accurate, and their giving this stuff a wider audience. But If you want recruiting news quicker and faster as it relates to this year's top prospects, go see West Coast Hoops.
