SoCal Youth League Announcements

Leagues, Leagues & More Leagues
Youth Basketball--(November 5, 1997)

There's a ton of basketball for youth in the SoCal area; some of it competitive, some not so competitive, as in "just for fun" type leagues. Here are some leagues still holding signups for the upcoming season. These are mostly NJB or YMCA leagues for players younger than 14, some much younger. Most of the leagues are centered in the South Bay and Southern LA, Northern Orange County and Long Beach Areas. The LA City Rec & Park leagues are all over Los Angeles, from the Valley, to the Metro and Pacific areas. If you've got a kid who wants to play then sign up now.

LA City Rec & Parks Leagues: Check out their website directory at this link. There are simply too many LA City Parks and leagues to list individually. Almost every park runs at least four different divisions of recreational and competitive league: PeeWees (grades 3-4); Minors (grades 5-6); Majors (grades 7-8); Juniors (grades up to age 16--only for non-high school team players). The competitive divisions, Minors, Majors and Juniors, each compete in local leagues. At the end of the season, all-star teams are picked from each park to compete in a "regional" (Valley, Metro, and Pacific) tournament. The winners of these regionals meet for the City Playoffs and Finals. Boys, Girls, all levels of competition. Seasons run from Jan. through March.
