A Few "We Care Thanksgiving Classic" Results--(November 30, 1997)

In addition to all of the youth tournaments going on this past weekend in the Carson-Long Beach-Compton-Torrance areas, there were a few LA City Section High School Tournaments taking place including the First Annual We Care Thanksgiving Classic at Manual Arts High School. The tournament took place this past Wednesday, Nov. 26, Friday the 28th and yesterday Saturday the 29th at Manual Arts High School, and was sponsored in part by R & M Charitables, ("R" is Richardson, as in Clipper and UCLA's Pooh, and the "M" is for Miguel, as in Nigel.). The proceeds from the admissions and tournament fees will be donated to charity to feed the hungry during the Thanksgiving holiday.

The teams which took part included Manual Arts, Washington, San Pedro, Jordan, Roosevelt, Wilson, West Side Alternative, and USC-Mast Magnet, and also included some very tough competition from B.J. Lafite, Ricky Duff, Curtis Slaughter and others.

We didn't get a chance to see these games because we were otherwise occupied with trying to figure out Issy Washington's somewhat screwy scheduling over at Compton College (no offense Issy, we know you try. . .And those were some really stylin' shorts you were wearing Saturday at Compton. Nice to see you.).

The LA Times did report the scores of some of the games, and the Long Beach Press-Telegram had Saturday's Third Place game score and box. Here they are from Friday and one from the Third Round (Saturday). We couldn't find Wednesday's scores or the rest of Saturday's, including the Championship game. Hopefully they'll be reported in Monday's paper or we'll get the full update from one of our readers. If you have any other info on these games, let us know, or post them to the message board.
