SoCal High School & Prep Tournament Update

No. 14 Utah Creams LMU Tigers, 89-50--(November 26, 1997)

Well, it wasn't much of a game. Hanno Mottola and his Utah Utes literally shut down LMU tonight. Mottola was perfect from the field, scoring 25 points and teammate Andre Miller added 16, as Utah slammed LMU. The Utes shot an amazing 72 percent from the floor, making 33-of-46 field goals.

Utah is now 20-1 all-time against LMU. Mottola made all 10 of his shots from the field and went 4-of-5 from the free-throw line. Starting center Michael Doleac returned to lineup for the Utes after missing two games with a sprained ankle and had seven points, six rebounds and two blocked shots in 19 minutes. Utah dominated inside, outrebounding the Lions 36-16. Haywood Eaddy scored nine points and Leo Saucedo added eight for Loyola Marymount, which is now winless at 0-3. In what might be a record, at least in recent memory, Loyola shot just 29% going a dismal 15-for 52 from the field. Yuk.

The Utes never trailed, leading 49-20 at the half, and in fact never let the lead fall below 26 points in the second half. Bummer for LMU. Looks like it's back to the drawing board.
