USC Updates and Corrections--(November 10, 1997)
Oops. Our earlier report had USC playing the "Slam & Jam Dunk All Stars" on Sunday. We got that wrong. They played the Slam & Jam Dunk All Starts on Friday, beating them 99-72, and yesterday (Sunday) played the Washington Dunk All-Starts on Sunday night after the UCLA Preview game, beating them 100-62.
We were
correct that junior guard Elias Ayuso and freshman point guard
Kevin Augustine
combined to score 44 points in Sunday's game, with Ayuso scoring
24 and Augustine scoring 20 from the field. Ayuso was 4 of 6 from
the three point line, and Augustine had five assists and four
rebounds. Sophomore forward Jarvis Turner and redshirt freshman
forward Shannon Swillis also scored in double figures for USC,
adding 13 and 10 points, respectively.
The Washington Dunk All-Stars were led by forward Scott Roczey, who finished with 17 points.
USC will open it's regular season Tomorrow, Tuesday Nov. 11 against AP Ranked No. 10 New Mexico at the the "Pit" for the NABC Classic, played at Albuquerque, N.M.
Bibby held Gary Williams and Jeff Trepagnier out of Sunday's game because the two were late for team meeting. They were not otherwise suspended and will play tomorrow night.
