Slam-N-Jam Early Bird Classic Tournament--(November 28, 1997)

Looking for some really good traveling team action today? Tired of watching UCLA getting hammered? Then come out to Compton College. The Slam-N-Jam Early Bird Classic starts today, 11/28/97, and will continue through Sunday at Compton College.

Most of the better traveling teams in SoCal will be at this tournament, which will have games for players in grades 4 through 8 all day and well into the evening. Southern California All-Stars will be there. The ARC teams will be there too. We'll be getting the brackets and will have the results for the 7th and 8th grade (i.e., 14 year old) teams tomorrow. There's a three game guarantee, so everyone will get to see some great action. The ARC 14's will be there (David Gale, Craig Weinstein, Romel Cabrera, Matt Llewellyn, Brian Trump, Teddy Boxberger, Charlie Kranzdorf, Trenton Cleavland, Johnathon Williams, Casey Wong, Michael Laythian). ARC 14's first game is at 3:30 p.m. Not sure who they're playing, but they're hoping it's someone other than SCAS again.

The games will be, as we said, at Compton College, which is located at 1111 E. Artesia Boulevard, Compton, CA 90221 (just thought we'd throw in the zip code for you anyway). If you need further information from Compton College you can call (310) 637-2660, but because it's a holiday, we're guessing nobody's going to answer.

To get to Compton College if you are coming from the North (i.e., the Valley, Pasadena, anywhere north of Compton: If you are coming from the Westside or the Valley, take either the 405 or the 110 Harbor Freeway south to the 91. Take the 91 east and take the Alameda Street offramp, and go north about a block to Artesia Blvd, and turn right. The college will be on your left (north). The gym entrance is off of Artesia on Delta Ave. If you are coming from the northeast (Pasadena) take the 710 Long Beach Freeway south to the 91 west, and get off on Santa Fe/Alameda (it's the first exit after the interchange). If you're coming from the south, just reverse the freeway directions. However you do it, you want to get to the 91 and exit at Alameda or Santa Fe.

Don't miss this great tournament and the chance to see some really fine up and coming players, some of whom will be playing high school varsity or jv ball next year.
