SoCal Prep Clinic News
Pump-N-Run Clinic and More Jed Hall--(November 2, 1997)
As we reported a few weeks ago, the Pump brothers, David and Dana, are sponsoring a Sunday clinic featuring different coaches each week. The clinics focus on shooting, defense, and other skill building sessions. The session today was run by newly added Montclair Prep Assistant Basketbal Coach, Mark Borgeson.
Mark's real forte is working with big men, and he had a few of those there today. Among those attending were Jed Hall (6'-8" Sr. PF/C) and Jason Anderson (6'-9" C). Also participating was Canoga Park High School's standout forward, Mike Bell (6'-6"), and Montclair Prep jv player David Morse, who's reportedly deadly from the three point line.
Borgeson, who recently relocated to Los Angeles from Virginia, is new to the Montclair Prep staff this season, and will join Head Coach Howard Abrams, and Assistants Greg Patterson and Greg Jones, who is himself a former Cincinnati Bengals' defensive back (9 years in the NFL) and who is the father of two time California CIF Div. 5 State Player-of-the year, Anwan Jones. Anwan is now playing linebacker and SF at Northwestern.
Borgeson has coached at the High School, JUCO, Small College and NCAA D-I levels over the past ten years, in addition to a stint in Europe coaching professional teams there. Borgeson coached NBA player Keith Closs, (at Central Connecticut), and Closs, who just signed a 5-year, 8.5 million dollar pact with the Clippers said, "because of the time and effort that coach Borgeson spent with me to help develop my game while in college, I now have the opportunity to fulfill my lifelong dream of playing in the NBA." That's a pretty good endorsement for Borgeson.
According to former USC player Jeff Kranzdorf, who has some pretty good info on Borgeson, the kudos don't stop there. A lot of people think that Borgeson is a pretty good coach, including CSUN Head Coach (and former Oregon Assistant) Bobby Braswell, who believes that Borgeson is very talented and able to bring a player's game to new levels. Similar sentiments have been expressed by more than a few other college players and coaches, including Matt Selmar (University of Rhode Island, where Harrick's now serving his sentence) and Mike Budenholzer, a San Antonio Spurs' Assistant.
If you get a chance to come out to these clinics, they're well worth your while. The high school player clinics are held every Sunday from about 3:00 pm to 5:30 pm. For further information contact the Double Pump, Inc.
