NSU Pounds Long Beach State 72-53--(November 26, 1997)
Unbelievable. NSU beat Long Beach Wednesday night, November 25 at the Pyramid. About 1,600 people watched the carnage. By the end, only about 20 (players and refs) were left in the building. Even Long Beach coach Wayne Morgan would have left if he could have.
NSU, a team that had lost to Cal State Fullerton by 26 points, and to Pepperdine by 42 points beat Long Beach by 19. And, Norfolk State University committed 29 turnovers in the process. Amazing. Long Beach State played incredibly bad, and didn't do anything to slow NSU down on its way to the airport. And from the way NSU played, they were in a big hurry to leave.
In the first half, NSU stretched a lead out comfortably, and Long Beach did nothing to stop them. At one point they led 20-6, stretching that lead to 31-10. Long Beach only shot 10% in the first half from the field. NSU led at the half 43-21 and never loked back. While Long Beach went on a 9-0 run to open the half to bring the score to 43-30, it never got closer than an eight point difference.
NSU was led by guards Damian Woolfolk who had 21 points, and Kenny Brown with 15. NSU outrebounded Long Beach 44-29.
Long Beach's high scorers were Antrone Lee with 16, and Quincy Nuckles with 14.
Long Beach's record is now 1-2, while NSU is 1-3.
Look for Long Beach to only get better. Because it's hard to think that it might get worse.
