USA Today:McCoy Failed Drug Test--(November 4, 1997)
USA Today is reporting that UCLA's Jelani McCoy will be off the team after he failed his most recent drug test.
USA Today is quoting a story they picked up in Today's Long Beach Press-Telegram
Here's the text, verbatim, from USA Today:
"LOS ANGELES - Jelani McCoy, a two-year starter for UCLA who was suspended from the team in September, reportedly flunked his most recent drug test and is not expected to rejoin the Bruins. The Long Beach Press-Telegram, citing an unidentified source close to McCoy, reported Tuesday that McCoy failed the mandatory drug test and informed coach Steve Lavin of the news Monday night. Neither McCoy nor Lavin were immediately available for comment. McCoy, a 19-year-old junior center, was suspended indefinitely from the team, along with senior Kris Johnson, on Sept. 29, reportedly for violating the school's athletic department Drug Education and Testing program for student-athletes. McCoy averaged 10.9 points and 6.5 rebounds last season as the Bruins went 24-8, won their third consecutive Pac-10 title, and advanced to the NCAA Midwest Regional championship game."
We'll have more later.
