Thunder
Vandalizes Idaho;
Boise's Next--(November 18, 1997)
We got tired of waiting for the Lewiston Tribune Online to update it's website with the results of last night's game between Idaho and the NBC Thunder. So, we got on the phone and called Idaho and spoke with Assistant basketball Coach Mike Buck (thanks Mike), who gave us the score, a few game stats and, without directly saying so, a few words for UCLA when the Bruins play NBC Thunder:
Be afraid. Be very afraid.
NBC Thunder is not Silute Lithuania.
Nope. It's not a bunch of stiffs in need of a good shoe store deal, with only two credible former NCAA players. No sireee Bob. Think of them as Lithuania, but with 11 Dion Crosses and Shawn Meyers. They can play.
Last night's score: NBC Thunder 72, Idaho 64.
As we said in reporting on the NBC Thunder-Illinois game, which came down to the last two minutes, this NBC Thunder team knows how to close a deal. Coach Buck reported that Idaho led by 18 at the half, but that the Thunder came out of the gate incredibly fast in the second half, to win by 8 points. That's a 24 point swing.
Buck says that NBC's 1-2-3 guard/swingman combination was very effective against the Vandals. NBC's Tyrone McDaniel had 24 points, Nico Harris had 15, and Shann Ferch had 11 for the Thunder. It also didn't hurt that NBC shot 83% from the free throw line, and 51% from the field. Idaho was hampered by the fine play of NBC's guards, and it didn't help much that Idaho's Kevin Byrne, (6'-8" Sr. C/PF) from Costa Mesa, who transferred to Idaho two years ago from North Idaho College did not play more than a few minutes due to an ankle injury. He only had 4 points and 2 rebounds.
Look out Boise. Look out UCLA. Check out tonight's Boise-Idaho game (if you can pull yourself away from the Lakers-Utah or if you're not going to the Pond at Anaheim for the Pepperdine-UCI game), which can actually be heard on the internet at Audio Net's College Sports Network using Real Audio's Real Player which can be downloaded here.
