Drew Gaulden Signs with New Mexico--(November 20, 1997)

Drew Gaulden (6'-8" Sr. F 210 lbs) from Canyon High in Anaheim, California has signed a national letter of intent with the 11th ranked New Mexico Lobos.

Drew will be joined at New Mexico by two other new recruits, Tim Lightfoot (6'-4" Sr. G) from Everman High in Everman Texas, and Bernard McIntosh (6'-8" F) a transfer from Northland Pioneer JC, Lexington, North Carolina. The Lobos have five graduating seniors, including Clayton Shields (6'-8' F), Royce Olney (6'-2" G), David Gibson (6'-2" G), Ryan Noce (6'-8" F/C), and Ben Baum (6'-11" F/C).

Drew is a very solid, fundamental player who will bring to the Lobos a very nice inside game, needs to put on a bit more bulk, but has a very nice outside shooting touch and the ability to slash to the hoop and dunk. He's played for the LA Rockfish AAU traveling All-Star team this last summer, did very well at the Pump All Stars and Best of the Summer Showdown, and Canyon will be playing in several tournaments this year with Canyon High, including the MLK Jr. Holiday Challenge at Pauley Pavilion early next year. He's been highly rated by most of the recruiting services, and while he didn't make the Best in the West list, we think he's one of the most underrated players we've seen. Congratulations Drew.
