Fairleigh
Dickinson Signs
Irvine's Donald Williamson--(November 20, 1997)
Fairleigh-Dickinson University is not the first place that most people might think of for basketball, especially if you're considering transferring from a community college located in sunny Irvine Valley. But you'd be wrong to think FDU isn't a basketball power. It is, and in the short time that it's fielded a Division I basketball team, it's been to the tournament twice, and has had seven players turn pro. FDU in fact is one of the only universities that has both a Division I and a Division II men's basketball team; of course there are two campuses, and only the Teaneck-Hackensack campus is Division I. . .sort of like comparing UCLA and UC Davis. . .
Now that the early signing period is over, we're back to reporting on "verbals" again. Today, the Orange County Register reported that Donald Williams, the starting center for Irvine Valley College, has verbally committed to attend Fairleigh-Dickinson. Congratulations Donald. And remember to take a coat, 'cause it's cold back there.
