Poor Little
NSU Gets Pounded by
Cal State Fullerton--(November 23, 1997)
If Norfolk State University thought they had it bad on Friday night when they lost to Pepperdine 99-57, they were still shell-shocked by the time the game with Cal State Fullerton ended last night, even though they held their second SoCal opponent to 16 fewer points..
The score?
CSUF 83, Norfolk State University, 57
Norfolk State's only lead came at 2-0, when 6'-8" NSU Forward freshman Darrell Neal scored off a rebound. From there it only got worse for NSU. Chris Dade (6'-2" Sr. G, El Camino High School, San Diego) had 24 points, while Chris St. Clair (6'-0" Sr. G, Sonora High School, La Habra) hit for 13. Ike Harmon (6'-7" So. F, Santa Ana Valley High, Santa Ana) scored 10 points, shooting 100% from the field, and making one free throw.
Harmon threw a scare into the team when, with about 5 minutes gone in the second half, he took an elbow to the jaw, sustaining a possible concussion. Harmon was taken from the game by ambulance to St. Jude Hospital in Fullerton for further observation.
The win was the Titan's first in a home opener since the 1994-95 season, when they beat CSUN in the first game coached by Hawking at Fullerton.
Fullerton's next game is a very good matchup with Pepperdine, at 7:05 pm at Firestone Fieldhouse on the campus of Pepperdine University in Malibu. If you can make it to the game, by all means go, but if you can't the game will be broadcast on radio (probably KIEV), and it will also be broadcast on RealAudio. This link should take you there (but it only works during the game).
And it ain't over yet for Norfolk. This Tuesday night, before they can escape to Virginia for Thanksgiving, NSU still has to play at The Pyramid against Long Beach State.
We wish them well. But not too well.
