Christofferson Really is A Duck--(November 20, 1997)

On November 11, we reported that Norhoff High School's 7'-0" Center, Chris Christofferson had verbally committed to Oregon, and said that he would sign with the Ducks for next year. Well, if it walks like a duck, it must be. . . He in fact sign and sent his letter and it's now official, Christofferson is a duck, and a Danish one at that.

Christoffersen is a Danish exchange student, who extended his stay with Nordhoff into this year so that he could attend college in the U.S. Last season with Nordhoff, the 7 foot 250 pound center averaged 17.4 points, 12.6 rebounds and 6.3 blocked shots. He's played with some of the ARC traveling teams, including the team coached by Ron Quarterman which played at the Long Beach Fall Hoops Classic

Oregon has signed a tremendous class this year, certainly within the top 15 in the nation. Christofferson will be joined by Dennis Nathan (6'5' Sr. G, Gresham, Oregon) and Freddie Jones (6'-3" Sr. G from Barlow High School, Barlow, Oregon). Both Jones and Nathan were all-state players in Oregon last year, and Jones was selected as the No. 15 player on the Long Beach Press-Telegram's prestigious Best in the West Selection this year, one of only three non-Californians chosen to the team. Nathan is a 5th year senior and is completing the extra year at Renton, Washington, who was a Best in the West selection last year. They will be joined next year by Alex Scales (6'-4" Sr. G) from Racine, Washington, who will transfer from San Jacinto Texas JC.

This is Coach Ernie Kent's first recruiting class, and he is excited to be back at his alma mater. Kent previously coached at Saint Mary's in Moraga, CA, the past six years, compiling a 90-80 record. The St. Mary Gaels won the West Coast Conference championship last year, and with "Big Continent", also made it to the NCAA Tourney last year. Kent has enlisted former Duck teammate Greg Graham as an assistant coach, along with Jay John and Mark Hudson. Graham coached at Oregon previously in 1982-83, and John also previously coached at Oregon during the 1985-86 season.

Congratulations to Chris and the Ducks.
