The Week Of Jan. 22, 1998--(January 22, 1998)

Here are the Top 10 in the SoCal Region (LA and Orange Counties only) from the LA Times. This was published today, so it very timely, and it also takes into account the results of the games played Monday the 19th at the MLK Challenge at Pauley Paviliion.

1. COMPTON DOMINGUEZ: 11-3 * Dons knocked off top-ranked Westchester, 71-62, at Pauley Pavilion. (Last Week, No. 2)

2. WESTCHESTER: 14-3 * Comets came up short in showdown against Dominguez, 71-62. (Last Week No. 1)

3. LAKEWOOD ARTESIA: 17-1 * Rolled over Long Beach Jordan, 60-43, in King Challenge. (Last Week, No. 3)

4. CRENSHAW: 10-2 * Defeated stubborn Etiwanda in overtime, 63-61. (Last Week No. 4)

5. COMPTON: 17-3 * Tarbabes beat Long Beach Poly and San Diego University. (Last Week No. 6)

6. SANTA MARGARITA: 18-0 * Experienced Eagles continue to roll and remain unbeaten. (Last Week Nol 7)

7. LONG BEACH POLY: 15-5 * Jackrabbits defeated previous No. 9 Fairfax, 61-55, in King Challenge. (Last Week No. 5)

8. FREMONT: 15-4 * Pathfinders continue their winning ways in Southeastern Conference. (Last Week No. 10)

9. GLENDORA: 17-1 * Tartans resume Baseline League play after beating Bell-Jeff. (Last Week, Not Ranked)

10. REDONDO UNION: 16-2 * Sophomore center Andrew Zahn has led Seahawks to fast start. (Last Week, Not Ranked)

Others receiving consideration: Manual Arts, Chaminade, Etiwanda

Dropped out: No. 9 Fairfax, No. 8 Simi Valley

Interestingly, every one of these teams, except for Fremont and Santa Margarita among the ranked teams, played at the MLK Challenge. Hmmmm. This must mean something.
