LA Times Top 10 For Week of Jan. 15, 1998--(January 15, 1998)

Once again, here are the Top 10 in the SoCal Region (LA and Orange Counties only) from the Times. This was published today, so it's still pretty timely, but it doesn't take into account the results of the games played Monday the 13th, or yesterday, January 14. Anyway, it's as good as it gets for now. Again, notice how many of the top teams will be at the MLK Challenge at Pauley Paviliion this coming Monday, January 19, 1997.

1. WESTCHESTER: 12-2 * Comets ready for showdown with Dominguez on Monday.

2. COMPTON DOMINGUEZ: 8-3 * Dons can gain top spot with victory over Westchester on Monday.

3. LAKEWOOD ARTESIA: 15-1 * Looking to continue winning ways against Long Beach Jordan.

4. CRENSHAW: 8-2 * Cougars will face Etiwanda in MLK Challenge on Monday.

5. LONG BEACH POLY: 13-4 * Jackrabbits are ready for challenge from Fairfax on Monday.

6. COMPTON: 14-3 * Tarbabes meet Bill Walton's son at Dad's old stomping grounds Monday.

7. SANTA MARGARITA: 16-0 * Senior experience has made the Eagles top team in Orange County.

8. SIMI VALLEY: 14-2 * Pioneers favored to win Marmonte League and possibly much more.

9. FAIRFAX: 11-5 * Tough schedule good preparation for Monday game with Long Beach Poly .

10. FREMONT: 14-4 * Pathfinders gave Coach Sam Sullivan 400th win last week.

Others receiving consideration: Redondo Union, Glendora, Etiwanda.

In fact, only Fremont, Simi, and Santa Margarita will not be at the MLK Challenge, and if we were them, we'd be more than a little upset about being excluded. Maybe next year. In fact, for Simi, it should be absolutely next year.
