Teams For The Week--(January 29, 1998)
Yes indeed, people keep asking for rankings. So how many different ways can Dominguez be rated No. 1? In the "area", the "region", the "State" or in their "Division"? How about all of them. We'll continue to bring you as many different polls as we can get our hands on, not because we think they really mean all that much, but because people keep demanding them. Like you, Nick Vander Laan. So here's the LA Times' Top 10 Poll for this Week. And this covers the entire circulation area of the Times, from way up in Santa Barbara to all the way down in Southern Orange County. For both the boys' teams and the girls' teams:
1. COMPTON
DOMINGUEZ: 13-3 * Dons preparing for Saturday showdown with
cross-town rival
Compton.
2. WESTCHESTER: 16-3 * Comets face stiff City test Friday against red-hot Los Angeles.
3. LAKEWOOD ARTESIA: 19-1 * Nonleague game against Long Beach Poly will be played Saturday.
4. CRENSHAW: 12-2 * Cougars might be tested against talented Washington on Friday.
5. COMPTON: 18-3 * Tarbabes have been looking forward to game against Dominguez all season.
6. SANTA MARGARITA: 20-0 * Winning streak has no end in sight if Eagles keep playing with poise.
7. LONG BEACH POLY: 16-5 * Jackrabbits get chance to prove themselves against Artesia.
8. FREMONT: 15-4 * Pathfinders cruising in preparation for tougher City playoff foes.
9. GLENDORA: 19-1 * Casey Jacobsen and teammates bound for Baseline League title.
10. REDONDO UNION: 18-2 * Seahawks' size and quickness dominating Ocean League opponents.

GIRLS
1. BREA OLINDA :17-1 * Wildcats are on their way to another Orange League title.
2. HARBOR CITY NARBONNE: 18-1 * Gauchos play host to Banning Friday in a Southern Pacific game.
3. BUENA: 17-1 * Bulldogs knocked off previously third-ranked Crescenta Valley, 70-49.
4. RIVERSIDE NORTH: 19-1 * Huskies unbeaten in Ivy League play and getting stronger.
5. CERRITOS: 14-2 * Dons appear on their way to the Mission Valley League title.
6. CRESCENTA VALLEY: 16-2 * Falcons lost to Buena and now Michelle Greco is nursing leg injury.
7. DIAMOND BAR: 18-2 * Sierra League supremacy was on the line Wednesday night against Ayala.
8. CHINO HILLS AYALA: 19-2 * Bulldogs are charting a course for Sierra League championship.
9. PALOS VERDES PENINSULA: 16-3 * Panthers making their usual climb up the rankings.
10. NORTH HOLLYWOOD: 18-1 * Huskies are rolling through Valley Pac-8 Conference play (but lost to Grant yesterday, January 28, 1998 in a big upset).
