Suburban League: Artesia,
Mayfair Win--(January 29, 1998)

Three games, six teams. Some with details, some not. Here are the highlights from yesterday's Suburban League games played in the Southern Section of CIF here in SoCal yesterday:

Artesia 90, La Mirada 38

The Pioneers (19-1, 5-0) jumped out to a 22-4 first quarter lead and never looked back as they rolled over the visiting Matadores (8-13, 2-3). Junior forward Jason Kapono paced Artesia's attack with 24 points, 11 rebounds and seven assists in only 14 minutes. Freshman center Jack Martinez recorded his first triple double of the season, scoring 12 points to go along with 13 rebounds and 11 blocked shots.

Mayfair 62, Bellflower 51

The Monsoons controlled the game from the second quarter on, using man to man pressure to defeat the host Buccaneers (17-4, 3-2). Jeff Bonds led Mayfair (13-8, 4-1) with 19 points while Jesus Miranda tossed in 14. Isaac Brooks had 18 points to lead Bellflower.

John Glenn 52, Norwalk 47
