Santa Barbara Tourney: Shantay's
Take on the Tech Call--(January 2, 1998)

Geez, no sooner do we post up the story about Dos Pueblos' impressive win in the "finals" of the Santa Barbara Tournament on Tuesday, with a brief notation in it about Shantay Legans being called for a technical (which went without any explanation in the stats we were looking at), and what happens? We get a note from the MAN, explaining what happened. Here it is:

"The tech call was a wake up for my team and to try and let the refs know it's kinda not cool to bend a guys' leg backward like a pretzel. I just bounced the ball extra hard. As for the change in schedule, the main reason was San Marcos and SB didn't want to play us before league so they got out this weirdo rule no one's ever heard of. Moorpark and DP were the only undefeated teams and I would have liked to play them. As far as SB goes, they didn't need to play Cabrillo since both teams had already lost. . ."

Well, that explains it. We should note that we also edited the message just a bit at the end. Something about Santa Barbara. . . but let's leave it to the court.
