San Gabriel Valley League
Games From Friday--(January 25, 1998)

Here are some scores and details from Friday's San Gabriel Valley League games, including Dominguez v. Paramount, Gahr v. Downey, and Warren v. Lynwood. These will be short, but sweet. Unless your from Paramount, and then it was anything but that.

Dominguez 118, Paramount 54

Senior forward Walter Small made all eight of his shots after halftime on the way to a season-high 25 points to pace six players in double figures as the Dons defeated the host Pirates, who are winless at 0-4 in league play. Junior Keith Kincade scored 17 points and seniors Tayshaun Prince and Mike Carson added 14 points apiece for Dominguez, which is the consensus No. 1 team in the State and in Southern Section, with a record of 13-3 overall and 4-0 in league play. Keith Brooks added another 11 points, and Tyson Chandler, the 7'-0" Freshman sensation, had 10 points, 10 blocks, three steals for the Dons. Is there no one who can beat Dominguez in league play this year? We don't think so. For Paramount, Eric Kendrick and Antonio Knox led Paramount with 10 points each.

This game was never close, as Dominguez jumped out to a 33-17 lead in the first quarter, then outscored Paramount 20-17 in the second, to lead at the half 53-34. In the third quarter, Dominguez just poured it on, outscoring the Pirates 27-6, and at the end of the third quarter, the score was 70-40. But Dominguez wasn't through, and in the fourth quarter, they just humiliated Paramount, 38-14, to win by the eventual 64 point margin. If we were Russell Otis, we'd watch our back the next time we go anywhere near the City of Paramount.

Gahr 53, Downey 50

Ramaan Shotwell hit a 3-pointer with 2:50 remaining in the game to put the Gladiators (3-1 league) up for good in their victory over the host Vikings (2-2 league). Jon Fenderson had 12 of his 18 points in the second half and also grabbed 11 rebounds to lead Gahr. Zack Grant paced Downey with 16 points.

Warren 74, Lynwood 71

Lynwood had a last second 3-point attempt at the buzzer to tie the game, but the ball wouldn't fall as the Knights (2-2 league) fell to the host Bears (1-3 league). Brandon Valsonis had 26 points for Warren.
