Ray Robins
On The Three R's: Recruiting,
Rebounding, and Robins--(January 23, 1998)
The San Luis Obispo Telegram-Tribune has not featured much prep basketball news lately. In fact, since early last year, there's been none until now. This past week the SLO paper ran a story about Ray Robins (6'-7" Sr. F/C), who has been playing under the watchful eyes of college recruiters this season.
The Paso Robles High basketball player has been playing in front of recruiters from Princeton, Nevada, Loyola Marymount and Sacramento State. And he's trying to keep it all in perspective.
"You think about
it, but it doesn't necessarily affect you," Robins told the
Tribune-Telegram. "You might try to do
a little more, but you still have to play within yourself. That's
all you can do."
Robins played two games last week in front of a Princeton recruiter. Robins averaged 17.5 points and 5.0 rebounds, making 57.1 percent of his field goal attempts and 88.9 percent of his free throws. He also made three three-pointers.
"You might think about it (playing before recruiters) during warm-ups, but once you get on the court it's over.
"Once you start playing, it's two hoops, 10 guys and a ball. That's it."
If we hear any thing additional on Ray's choice of school, we'll let you all in on it.
