Pasadena Area Hoops Review for
Week of January 16-23--(January 27, 1998)

The Pasadena Herald-Tribune may not publish every day, and they only update their site once a week in fact when it comes to prep sports, but even so, they feature a pretty good review of the past week's events. Here's their report from this last week, broken down so it's a bit more readable and understandable:

PACIFIC LEAGUE:

MUIR:

Muir, the class of the field, improved to 4-0 (15-5) with victories over Hoover, 67-47, and Glendale, 71-45. Darrell Rowe had 19 points against Hoover and 12 against the Nitros. Nate Johnson added 12 and 14. The Mustangs have outscored their league opponents by a 29.2-point margin.

PASADENA:

Pasadena topped Arcadia, 53-34, and lost to Hoover, 72-60 to fall to 3-1 (12-9). The Bulldogs had a 19-point lead (36-17) before halftime and led 54-42 at the beginning of the fourth quarter in which Hoover scored 20 unanswered points. Kevin Richards combined for 27 points in the two games and George De Johnnette contributed 24.

ARCADIA:

Arcadia (0-4) fell short of winning its first league game, losing to Crescenta Valley, 57-55. Dennis Wang, 16 points, and Dionse Cox, 15, were the top Apaches.

RIO HONDO LEAGUE:

LA CANADA:

La Canada remained the only undefeated team after four games, following South Pasadena's 76-73 (overtime) upset victory over Temple City on Wednesday. The Spartans (4-0; 17-4), who dominated Monrovia 68-51 on Wednesday, are ranked second in the CIF-SS Div. IIIAA rankings. Center Matt Moore scored a season high 33 points and Ian Sullivan added 22 in the 62-52 win over Blair. Moore had 17 points and Sullivan 14 in the 57-37 win over San Marino, and the duo combined for 30 points against the Wildcats.

MONROVIA:

Monrovia, which had lost to Temple City, 71-63, and defeated South Pasadena, 69-59, fell to 2-2 (13-5). Sam Kim had 27 points and Adam Glovsky added 18 to lead the Tigers (1-3; 9-6) against the Rams.

SANTA FE LEAGUE:

LA SALLE:

Aki Aquino scored 24 points to lead La Salle in the 49-46 win over Salesian. The Lancers are 3-1 (8-10).

ALPHA LEAGUE:

MARSHALL:

Deverion Mackey and Brian Holifield scored 14 points each to lead Marshall (2-0; 12-5) in the 59-47 win over Maranatha. Dan Newkirk had 17 points for the Minutemen (1-1; 4-10).

PREP LEAGUE:

POLY:

Poly lost to Chadwick, 57-46, but defeated Flintridge Prep, 80-41, to improve to 3-1 (10-7). Ryan Haden led the Panthers with 21 points in each game.
