Besides the Dos Pueblos win over Santa Barbara, there were other games played in the Channel League on Friday. In other action, San Marcos beat Buena easily 71- 44.
San Marcos' defense was responsible for 19 steals in a game they dominated at Buena. As San Marcos' coach Chris Hantgin explained it following the game, "Basically our press was suffocating. We also managed to play unselfishly on offense and did a good job moving the ball."
Senior guard Sonny Oden led San Marcos with 16 points, four assists and four steals. "Sonny was the beneficiary of a very, very good press tonight,'' said Hantgin. "Buena really struggled, and Sonny was on the receiving end of a lot of steals. He did a good job filling the lane. And Randy Moharram did a great job in getting the ball to him."
Moharram had 14 points, including three 3-pointers, and had four assists. Art Gutierrez led the San Marcos with six assists, while Jordan McOwen led the team with five steals.
