Report
More Information on Victor Munoz--(January 18, 1998)
The LA Times and the Daily News have both published reports saying that Victor Munoz is out for the season. The Times even purported to quote Harvard-Westlake coach Greg Hilliard as saying words to the effect that "it's too bad, because Victor is a kid who loves basketball more than anything."
Last week we said that Victor told us that he's coming back before the end of the season. We believe him. At least we want to believe him, and we know that if there's a way that he can do it, he will. But for now, the word is being spread that he's pulled his ACL, and will have surgery on it sometime in the next week or two. There are, of course, degrees of ACL damage, and it could be that this is not a season-ending injury for Victor, and we hope that this is true.
By the way, we're still going to do a feature story on the Chaminade victory over Harvard Westlake on Friday night. We've got our notes from the game handy, the stats from not only the Times and Daily News, but the "real" stats from Lee Garson, and some great comments from the players on both teams, and from their coaches.
But in the meantime, we really do want to wish Victor well, and hope that all those Ivy League coaches and scouts out there will continue to express the kind of interest in Victor which he deserves.
