Challenge: SoCalHoops
MVP's and All-Event Team Selections--(January 21, 1998)
Since no one else has done this, here's our own SoCalHoops' 4th Annual Nike MLK All-Event Team(s) and MVP Awards.
We know this wasn't a tournament, but even so, here's who we'd pick on our "Dream Teams" from among those who played standout games. Actually, the players we've highlighted on our "Senior Picks", "Junior Picks" , "Sophomore Picks", and "Freshmen Picks" of the MLK Event, would all be on a Dream Team in one way or another. But because of some particularly great performances, these 15 players are the ones we believe deserve special attention.
Co-Most Valuable Players
Tayshaun Prince and Tyson Chandler
First Team David Abramowitz
(6'-0" Sr. PG) Tony Bland
(6'-5" Sr. SG) Tayshaun
Prince (6'-8" Sr. PG/SG/F) David

Second Team Brandon
Granville (5'-10" Sr. PG) Derrick

And if we could do the "All Management" Team, the awards would go to Dinos Trigonis, Russell Otis, and Phil Gatton for organizing and publicizing this event, to Michael Miller of West Coast Hoops for the player profiles which appeared in the program notes, to the UCLA Event staff, and to all the other folks and players at this great exhibition, and to the coaches, parents and fans who came out to enjoy the day. It was a blast. Can't wait until next year.
