High: Some Bad News
And Some Fun Stuff--(January 26, 1998)
The Los Angeles Times reported today in their "prep sports" section that Calabasas High standout Spencer Harriton, a former Team LA Maccabi player on 15-16 boy's team this past summer in Seattle, will be out, possibly for the rest of the season, with a broken ankle, which he sustained during a mishap in practice last Monday. Get well soon Spencer.
And on the lighter side, the Times reported that the coaches, who took a dare from their players, to the effect that if the team beat highly regarded Santa Clara, the coaching staff would shave their heads, is now looking a lot more like Mr. Clean.
The Times reported that Calabasas boys' basketball Coach Bill Bellatty and assistant coach Ted Green had their heads shaved by players after the Coyotes beat Santa Clara last week. Bellatty, who's coached for 11 years, has had a standing bet that the first Calabasas team to beat Santa Clara would get to give him a haircut.
Bellaty's wife tried to intercede, attempting to talk the team out of it. But they were a "no excuses" team, and proceeded to perform the shaving. "She went down and tried to talk them out of it," Bellatty told the Times.
