Orange County Report: Freeway &
Orange League Games--(January 29, 1998)

There were some other games played in Orange County Wednesday. Here are the results and highlights from the Orange League and Freeway League games that we heard about played yesterday.

ORANGE LEAGUE

Brea Olinda 89, Western 66:

No 3 Brea Olinda, behind Wyoming-bound Chris McMillian scored 28 points and Jeff Mason had 12 points and 18 rebounds for Brea Olinda (18-3, 4-1), which plays first-place Magnolia Friday. McMillian connected on five three-point goals en route to hitting the game-high 28 points.

Magnolia 73, Savanna 57

No. 8 Magnolia 's Zamiro Bennem scored 38 points to tie a 31-year-old school record for points in a league game. The Sentinels improved to 18-3, 5-0. Anthony Zaragoza added 10 rebounds, seven steals and nine assists as host Magnolia cruised. Bennem's 38 points ties the school record for a league game set by Steve Peterson in 1966. Bennem was 9 for 9 from the free-throw line. Will King had 25 points for the Rebels (9-11, 3-2). Asi Faoa added nine rebounds for the Sentinels.

Valencia 69, Anaheim 58

Rich Reynoza scored 23 points to lead Valencia (8-13, 2-3), which led, 29-26, at the half. Mike McCowan added 17 points for the Tigers and Danny Ortega had 12. Jesus Salcedo led Anaheim (8-11, 1-4) with 19 points and Tru Nguyen added 17.

FREEWAY LEAGUE

Sonora 57, Fullerton 55

No. 3 Sonora behind Marqui Worthy's put back on a missed shot with 30 seconds remaining, won the game to give Sonora a record of 17-4 overall and 4-1 in league play. Jeff Berokoff tipped in two of his game-high 19 with 30 seconds remaining to lead the host Raiders (17-4, 4-1). Chad Bell finished with 16 points for the Indians (3-2). Michael Sailhammer and Chad Bell combined for 31 points to pace the Indians

Troy 61, Buena Park 34

Jerry Inzunza scored 15 of his game-high 26 points in the fourth quarter, when Troy, ranked No. 5 in the county, and with a 16-3 overall record and 5-0 in league, outscored visiting Buena Park, 25-5. Aaron Mason contributed 10 points and 10 rebounds to spark the host Warriors. Nick Hawkins led the Coyotes with 12 points. Troy is now 16-3 overall and 5-0 in league, while Buena Park dropped to 9-14, and remains winless in league at 0-5.

La Habra 65, Sunny Hills 43

Josh Fischer scored 17 points and Nathan Allard added 10 to lead La Habra (11-10, 3-2). Bim
Okunrinboye led Sunny Hills (10-11, 1-4) with 19 points.
