Some City Section Highlights
From The Valley--(January 18, 1998)

These are by no means the complete "highlights" of City Section basketball. We've already covered the San Fernando Taft game, and the Grant game against Sylmar. Not to mention the Westchester v. Manual game. Now if we can only find someone who will tell us what the 'Shaw was really doing on Friday, we'd be grateful.

In any event, before we conclude our coverage of the week just ended, and get ready for the MLK Challenge game reports, which we will begin filing tomorrow immediately after the games, we'd like to present some selected highlights and scores, mostly from the Valley conferences, courtesy of the LA Times and the Daily News. So here they are:

City Section: Northern Conference

Verdugo Hills 64, Belmont 56--Fernando Bugueiro had 23 points for the Dons, who are now 9-8, and 5-1 in Conference play withe the win. Note that the Northern Conference is not broken up into "league" play, and Verdugo Hills should meet each of the teams in the Conference at least twice.

City Section: Northwest Valley Conference:

Chatsworth 68, Granada Hills 62--Montae McFarland scored 20 points for the Chancellors (10-6, 1-1).

Cleveland 76, El Camino Real 67--Kent Dennis, transfer from Bell-Jeff, scored 20 points for the Cavaliers at El Camino Real.

Birmingham 80, Kennedy 64--Stanley Fletcher, one of the City Section's top scoring threats, had 27 points for the Braves at Birmingham.

City Section: Valley Pac-8 Conference:

Reseda 64, Monroe 57-- Coach Dave Enowitz' Reseda team is on a roll. At 6-10 for the year, that's six more wins than they had all of last year. Larry Knox and Bobby Mitchell each had 17 points and 10 rebounds for the Regents, who are 1-1 in Conference/League play.

Canoga Park 97, Poly 91--Ellis Richardson, another of the City Section's scoring leaders, had 36 points and 15 rebounds for the Parrots, who are now 7-9 on the season overall, and 1-1 in Conference-League play.
