CIF Southern Section Polls:
SoCal Basketball's Best--(January 16, 1998)

As we keep saying, we really don't place too much credence in polls. They're usually just a bunch of other people's opinion's about who's "best" or "better", and when it comes down to playing the games, polls really don't mean much. But since everyone seems so interested in them, we came across the Official CIF Southern Section Polls, (which we are told are voted on by the coaches) which were published today in the Pasadena Star News. So here are the Boy's Polls, from the CIF Southern Section for the week ending January 16, 1998. We'll have the Girls' Polls next up later today.

Ok, so now that you've seen it, what does it really mean? We don't think it means a whole lot, especially since some of the Division IA teams have been beaten by Division IIAA teams, and Division IV-A teams are beating up on some Division V-A and V-AA teams. In fact, if you look at the composition of most leagues, you'll see that the Southern Section "divisions" really in most instances make no sense, and they certainly aren't determinative of a schools ability or standing. But it's what we're stuck with, at least for now, and that's why just about everyone (well, at least the top three or four teams in most leagues) make the playoffs come the end of February and beginning of March. But these are still all very fine teams, some of which we've featured, and many of which we will before the season is out. Anyway, they're here, because you asked for them. We just aim to please. :--)
