Section Games: LA & North Orange
County From Friday--(January 25, 1998)
Since we'd like to be as comprehensive as we can possibly be, we're going to try to get up as many of the Friday games as possible here at SoCalHoops. Here are some additional game scores and highlights from the Surburban League, the Del Rey League, Olympic League, Sunset League, and the Delphic League. We know there are others, and we'll try to get to them before the day is through, so bear with us.
SUBURBAN LEAGUE
Mayfair 89, Norwalk 53
The Monsoon's man-to-man pressure defense overwhelmed the Lancers in the second half to as Mayfair rolled to the victory. Josh Childress scored 17 points for the Monsoons (12-8, 3-1).
La Mirada 71, Glenn 65
Vaughn Jarrett had 21 points, nine rebounds and four steals to help the Matadores (8-11, 2-2) hold on for a win over the host Eagles (0-4 league). Chris Bell contributed 14 points for La Mirada. Alex Vaxter drilled six 3-pointers en route to 31 points for Glenn.
DEL REY LEAGUE
St. John Bosco 63, St. Paul 52
The Braves used the momentum of sophomore guard Gary Vasqez's 3-pointer at the end of the first half to put away the Swordsmen (0-4 in league). Junior forward Gilbert Brown led St. John Bosco (9-11, 2-2) with 16 points and 11 rebounds. Sophomore guard Abraham Cruz scored 16 points for St. Paul.
OLYMPIC LEAGUE
Valley Christian 73, Ontario Christian 67
Brandon Fopma had 10 of his 19 points in the third quarter as the Crusaders (8-9, 1-3) cruised to a win over the host Knights. Erick Streelman led Valley Christian with 29 points and 10 rebounds.
SUNSET LEAGUE
Edison 69, Los Alamitos 68 (OT)
The Aztecs (3-1 league) hit two free throws with 19 seconds left in overtime to give them a one point lead they would never relinquish as the host Griffins (2-2 league) fell in a thriller. Senior forward Matt Komer led Los Alamitos with 19 points and 12 rebounds.
DELPHIC LEAGUE
Whitney 83, Faith Baptist 50
Ashley Rochester
delivered 21 points, seven assists and six rebounds as the
Wildcats (2-2 league) ran away
from the Contenders.
