Updated Division III 1997-98 Alignments--(January 11, 1998)
We meant to put this up some time ago, and want to thank Connie Jackson who sent us some of the information back in December (actually on December 27, 1997). We've had our own Division III Men's Basketball page, for some time now, which has most of the schools linked to their own sites. And there is a new, terrific Division III Men's Basketball Site maintained by Gaulladet University, which also has some of the same links, although we think we've got just a few more to some of the schools than they've got up.
We're guessing that in the brief letter which follows, Connie was referring to the "Official Division III Men's Site" maintained by Gaulladet, but she may have been referring to ours. No matter, because we've totally reconfigured ours to match the current alignments for this year.
If you vist the "Official" Division III Gaulladet site, fans from SoCal will want to pay particular attention to the information on the Southern California Intercollegiate Conference, which features such teams as Cal Lutheran in Thousand Oaks, Cal Tech in Pasadena, the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges in Pomona, La Verne University in La Verne, Occidental over in East LA, Pomona-Pitzer (another Claremont group), Redlands University, and Whittier. One really nice feature of the "Official" D-III site, is that the "Standings" section has links directly to each of the conferences which also maintain a web presence, including both men's and women's basketball. For example, there's a link to the Southern California Intercollegiate Conference site maintained by Claremont-McKenna College. Very nice.
We would heartily suggest you check out the Division III sites, both here and from Gallaudet. The "Official" site features news, stats (both team and individual), polls, conference and league standings, and feature highlights on players, teams and coaches. Well worth the visit.
In any event, we didn't want to delay putting up the "new" alignments (actually not much has changed in the west, but there are a few more new conferences in the east and in the midwest, and it looks like some more NAIA schools have come over to Division III). So, for those of you who just can't wait any longer, here's the current alignment for Division III Men's Basketball for this year. And to keep this redesigned page in some context, i.e., the reason as to why we are changing it now, here's the letter which Connie wrote to us on December 27, 1997:
"The Division III Men site has not been updated. I believe that this season's alignment is the following. However, I am not entirely sure about this list (I based this on the Division III site; however, this site is not entirely finished). For example, I am unsure about the University Athletic Association. The UAA does not have a web site, but I do believe that the alignment I have for it is correct (and I am sure that Case Western Reserve is a member of the UAA and the North Coast Athletic Conference). Some schools might also be missing, I am not sure. Thank you for your time and sorry for the inconvenience. Here is the alignment for 1997-98."
Well, that was Connie's letter, and it got us doing a bit of research and checking, and sure enough she was right. It was our page here at SoCalHoops which had not been updated since last summer. So here's the new stuff.
And since we're concerned mostly with the West Region (because we're from SoCal), we're taking this somewhat out of geographical order (these conferences are usually arranged East to West). Here are the 1997-98 Division III Schools:
