Thursday Games: Not Many To Talk About--(February 6, 1998)
We're not certain exactly how many games were played yesterday, since the bulk of the Southen Section and City Section games will be played on Friday night, or were already played on Wednesday. Hardly anyone, except the girls teams, play on Thursday any more. But there are a few holdouts. Here are some of the scores and highlights from around SoCal on Thursday.
Baseline League
Don Lugo 69, Chino 68
Matt Hinojosa capped a superb week with a game-high 23 points, seven rebounds and five assists in Don Lugo's 69-68 Baseline League victory at Chino. The Conquistadores (11-13, 3-5) also received 15 points and nine assists from Scott Martinez, whose free throw with six seconds remaining dropped Chino to 4-20, 1-7.
Frontier League
Nordhoff 70, Calabasas 64
Huton Ghoreishi's 21 points and Jason Miller's 20 weren't enough for the Coyotes (11-11, 3-4) in a Frontier League game at Nordhoff Andy Flores had 17 points for Nordhoff (9-11, 2-5).
Metro League
Lake Arrowhead Calvary Chapel 53, Upland Christian 30
Mitch Denny scored 22 points to lead Lake Arrowhead Calvary Chapel to a 53-30, Metro League victory over host Upland Christian. Matt Chiappone scored 10 points for the Eagles (0-18, 0-12).
Boys Republic 75, Murrieta Calvary Chapel 22
Boys Republic improved to 11-0 in the Metro League as Eric Jackson and Tony Jones scored 17 points apiece in the Rams' 75-22 rout at Murrieta Calvary Chapel. Jackie Price added 12 points, six rebounds and four assists for the Rams (11-7).
City Section Magnet Conference
Sherman Oaks CES 55, USC-MAST 33
Sinclair Brown and Lawrence Lowe combined to score 14 of 18 third-quarter points for Sherman Oaks CES (6-12, 5-2) in a Magnet Conference game.
