Southern Section Games
In & Near Los Angeles--(February 3, 1998)
Some of these games we've featured, most we haven't, simply because we've been unable to get full reports, or even partial details. There were no games played in City Section in Los Angeles, but there were more than a couple of games played in Southern Section competition. But something, in our view, is better than nothing, so here are the line scores from Monday's Southern Section games:
Academy League
St. Margarets 70, St. Michael 53
Bay League
Santa Monica 67, Hawthorne 44
Coastal Life Christian League
Glendale Adventist 81, Shalhevet 71
Heritage League
South Bay Lutheran 58, First Lutheran 39
Mission Valley League
Arroyo 58, Rosemead 56
Arroyo, which is now 9-12 overall, and 6-3 in league and tied with Cerritos, never trialed jumping out to a 32-20 halftime lead. And despite a 30 point fourth quarter by Rosemead which was David Villanueva score 25 points, including 4 three pointers, the Arroyo squad hung on for the win. Rosemead is now 5-12 overall and 2-7 in league play.
Cerritos 61, South El Monte 37
The Dons, who are 11-11 overall and 6-3 in league with the win, led 25-21 at the half, had no turnovers and played solid defense in a 21-6 third quarter to take control fo the game against the visiting South El Monte Eagles, who are now 9-12 with the loss overall and only 3-5 in league play. Evan Yamada had 15 points for Cerritos in the win.
Mission League
Loyola 63, Harvard-Westlake 60
Ocean League
Compton Centennial 68, Culver City 65
Marquis Poole scored 14 of his 25 points in the fourth quarter as the Apaches beat the Centaurs. Michael Williams added 17 points for Centennial, which is now 17-5 overall and 8-2 in Ocean League play.
Mira
Costa 57, Beverly Hills 32
Redondo Union 77, El Segundo 63
Valle Vista League
San Dimas 88, Covina 50
San Dimas remained undefeated in the Valle Vista League with a 88-50, victory over Covina. Joe Bolander led the Saints (18-4, 9-0) with 27 points. David Malana and D.J. Hackett added 15 and 14 points, respectively, for San Dimas. Franky Firman led the Colts (0-8) with 24 points.
Ganesha 76, Workman 52
In a Valle Vista League game, Ganesha defeated West Covina Workman, 76-52. Eric Manuel led Ganesha with 15 points and 13 rebounds. Mau Uiagalelei had 17 points and William Warren added 15 points for the Giants (12-11, 6-3).
Non-League
Southwestern Academy 101, Laverne CB 60
San Marino Southwestern Academy, led by five players in double figures, routed visiting La Verne Calvary Baptist, 101-60. The Suns were led by Max Subbtin 26 points. This game featured the high scoring exploits of David Escobar, who scored 54 points last night for Southwestern. Emad Mahli's 20 points and 10 rebounds led the Cougars (5-8). Bobby Quinn had 18 points and 13 boards, and Brian Gillilan added eight points and 12 rebounds for Calvary Baptist.
