Pomona Valley Area Report: Tuesday's Games--(February 4, 1998)

We're getting better and better, if we do say so ourselves, at least at finding the next day scores and highlights. Here are a the results of the games played Tuesday, February 3, 1998 in the Pomona Valley area.

Non-League

Calvary Baptist 71, Tarbut V' Torah 51

Emad Mahli scored 18 points and Ryan Gillilan added 12 points and 14 rebounds for Calvary Baptist in a 71-51 nonleague victory at Irvine Tarbut V'Torah.

Arrowhead League

La Verne Lutheran 96, SCDR 92

La Verne Lutheran survived a double-overtime thriller, defeating host CSDR, 96-92. Ryan Wright had 27 points for the Trojans (11-6, 4-5) and Brendon Jackson added 25.

Baseline League

Glendora 65, Upland 43

Glendora continues to roll, and it looks like no one can stop big man Casey Jacobsen, who scored 21. Likewise, nobody can stop Chris Clark either, and he added another 20 for Glendora, which is now 21-1 overall and 7-0 in league play, as they routed Upland (15-8, 5-2) in a Baseline League game Tuesday. Ronnie Bullock led Upland with 11 points.

Claremont 53, Chino 45

Jeff Whitton scored 14 points and Wayne Cox had 10 points and nine rebounds to lead Claremont (10-13, 2-5) to a 53-45 win over Chino (4-19, 1-6) in a Baseline League game at Claremont. Kevin Eldridge led the Cowboys with 14 points.

Don Lugo 57, Damien 55

Matt Hinojosa had 26 points, 12 rebounds, three assists and three steals and Erik Mischlich scored on an offensive rebound at the overtime buzzer to lead Don Lugo past Damien, 57-55, in a Baseline League game at Don Lugo. Hinojosa's 3-pointer with 30 seconds left in regulation tied it at 53-53. Mischlich had seven points, nine rebounds and four blocked shots. Bobby O'Hara led Damien with 13 points.

Citrus Belt League

Fontana 66, Colton 55

Gary Holmes scored 21 points and grabbed 16 rebounds in Fontana's 66-55 win over Colton in a Citrus Belt League game. The Steelers (17-6, 5-2) also got 11 points from Derrick Benjamin. Cody Sorenson scored 18 points for Colton (0-7 in league).

Metro League

Boys Republic 84, Christian Center Academy 63

Tony Jones scored 30 points and Eric Jackson had 25 in Boys Republic's 84-63 victory over Christian Center Academy at the San Bernardino Boy's Club. The Rams improved to 10-7, 10-0 in the Metro League.

Upland Christian 77, Riverside Christian 23

Jon Surmi led Upland Christian (0-17) with 10 points, but the Eagles fell to Riverside Christian 77-23 in the Metro League.

Mt. Baldy League

Etiwanda 66, Ontario 60

Gary Colbert scored 23 points and Corey Landrum added 20 as Etiwanda, the top-ranked team in the Inland Valley, improved to 17-5, 7-0 with a 66-60 Mt. Baldy League victory at Ontario. The Jaguars (15-6, 4-3) were led by Mike Niles' 21 points and 13 rebounds.

Alta Loma 72, Chaffey 64

Adonis Witt's (22 points) four-point play keyed an 11-0 run to open the third quarter and Alta Loma (8-13, 1-6) rallied from a 39-21 halftime deficit to beat Chaffey 72-64 in the Mt. Baldy League. Eric Bartholomew added 15 points for the Braves.

Rancho Cucamonga 88, Montclair 85

Donnie Furnald's career-high 29 points and 10 rebounds helped Rancho Cucamonga (18-5, 6-1) hold off Montclair 88-85 in the Mt. Baldy League. Danny Ryan scored 26 to lead Montclair, which made 12 of 18 3-pointers.

Victory League

Santa Ana Calvary Chapel 60, Ontario Christian 44

A 14-point halftime deficit was too much to overcome for Ontario Christian, which fell to Santa Ana Calvary Chapel (17-5, 7-0), 60-44, in an Olympic League game at Santa Ana. Bryan Vanderzee scored 16 points and Ryan Fuqua added 14 points and six steals for the Knights (8-12, 1-6).

Ambassador Christian 109, Inland Christian 55

Chris Como scored 30 points with 10 rebounds, and Matt Winter and Matt Weening added 21 points apiece as Ambassador Christian routed Highland Inland Christian 109-55 in the Victory League.
