More Moore League & More: Central
Southern Section Games--(February 5, 1998)

We've already put up the LA Southern Section scores, which included some leagues as far away as Paso Robles, and as far east as Pasadena. But of course, we didn't mean to neglect the Central & Western portions of LA County and Northern Orange (our full Orange County report will follow shortly). So here are the scores from in and around the Central and South Central LA area, including the Moore League, San Gabriel Valley League, Suburban League, Sunset League, Camino Real, and the Mission Valley League.

Camino Real League

St. Anthony 79, Bosco Tech 55

Joe Luyben scored 15 points, six rebounds, five assits and three steals to lead the Sains, who improved to 17-6 overall and 3-3 in league over the host Tigers, who dropped to .500 at 11-11 for the year and 2-2 in league.

Mission Valley League

Cerritos 54, El Monte 42

Janus Norman poured in 14 points and Evan Yamada had 11 as the Dons improved to 12-11 overall and 7-3 in league. El Monte dropped to 8-12 overall and 4-6 in the game played at El Monte Wednesday.

Moore League

Jordan 63, Lakewood 40

Craig Calloway had 25 points and Mike Newton scored 14 as the Panthers, who are now 14-10 and 4-3 in league, used their full-court pressure defense to beat Lakewood. Millikan is now 4-17 overall and 2-5 in league, and Wilson dropped to 1-6 in league. Joseph Jack hit for 13 while Antoine Griffin scored 12 for Milikan. Trayvon Carter was Wilson's leading scorer with 18 while Jeffrey Colbert scored another 14 in the losing effort.

San Gabriel Valley League

Dominguez 96, Gahr 59

Senior forward Walter Small hit 6 for 8 from the field and scored a game-high 18 points as the Dominguez Dons, who are now 17-3 and 7-0 in league got ready for their Saturday matchup with Oak Hill in a league tuneup game Wednesday. Gahr had been in contention for first place, at 5-1, while Dominguez entered the game at 6-0; had Gahr won (an unlikely event in anyone's book) both teams might have been tied for first place at 6-1. Tayshaun Prince (6'-7" Sr. G/F/C) scored 17 points and pulled down seven rebounds, while Keith Kincade hit for 15 points and nine rebounds. Most of the Dons scored in this one, including Keith Brooks who had 7 ponts and nine rebounds as well. Dominguez never trailed, and at the end of the first quarter led 24-8. For Gahr, Anthony Davis and Michael Williams scored 15 points each.

Lynwood 80, Paramount 57

Senior guard Everett Williams had 10 of his 22 points in the first half and Keyawn Floyd scored 15 of his 19 in the second half as the Knights, who are now 14-10 overall and 3-4 in league beat Paramount, which is struggling at only 1-7 in league play. Lance Peters scored 14 to lead Paramount in the loss.

Warren 72, Downey 55

The Warren Bears, who are now 17-6 and 3-4 in league shot 13 for 14 from the free-throw line in the fourth quarter to break open an otherwise close game. Robert Borg led Warren with 16 points while Brandon Valsonis added another 15. Downey dropped to 11-12 overall and 2-5 in league.

Suburban League

Artesia 72, Norwalk 42

Senior forward Jamal O'Quinn scored 16 points and Jack Martinez added another 14 to help the Pioneers win their 41st consecutive league game. Artesia is now 22-1 overall this season and is undefeated at 7-0 in league play, and are ranked No. 1 in the Southern Section Division I-AA coaches poll, where they've been for the last three weeks. Norwalk on the other hand is struggling, and is only 1-6 in league. Martinez also managed to pull down 16 rebounds, while James Murdock scored another 10 points for Artesia. Jason Kapono did not play, resting his score ankle to be ready for the run at the playoffs, and frankly Artesia didn't miss him at all. The leading scorers for Norwalk were Eric Webb and Waron Whittal who each scored 9.
