Big News:
Santa Barbara Beats
Dos Pueblos--(February 10, 1998)
Santa Barbara 59, Dos Pueblos 53. Now this is news. DP was undefeated in league play, but always just on the verge of losing, never really dominatingWe actually heard about this one at about 6:30 pm this evening as one of our sources was at the game. Apparently Shantay Legans couldn't pull this one off. Apparently suffering from a bruised tailbone, he didn't play much. Dan Hoefer apparently played well, but Tafari Peipersburg is not playing with the team, and the word is that he had a little run in with the local gendarmes at a 7-11, and won't be playing anytime soon. Phil Sherman was said to be really not very pleased with the way the team played. We don't have stats, but there apparently was one very memorable event where within about 5 seconds ticked off the clock, Santa Barbara made a shot, the shooter was fouled on the shot, he went to the line, missed, got the rebound, was fouled as he made the shot which dropped, went to the line, missed, got the rebound, made the shot and drew the foul, converting for 6 points in a matter of seconds. It was a game like that.
Santa Barbara also was said to have played really well. And believe it or not, as soon as this game concluded, the Santa Barbara team drove down to Ventura to play Buena to make up for a game that was rained out last week. We'll have more on that one later.
And Shantay, always the good reporter, wrote to SoCalHoops with the following:
I always rush to tell you when we win, so I guess I'll rush and tell you when we lose. I only played about 3 minutes, my tailbone bruise is killing me and I am stiff as a board. I got thrown on my butt in the Friday game and am still sore - I got a deep bruise on the bone. We only lost by 3 and the fellas played hard and I feel bad for them cuz I couldn't help out - I know we would have won if I played - look at the low score. I HATE sitting on the bench. Johnny Ortiz for SB played well - actually the teams were pretty evenly matched without me in there as you can see by the score and the team even came back on SB as we were down by 14 in the 3rd. No rabbits left in the hat tonight. I betcha San Marcos is kicking themselves for losing Friday because even if we lose the last league game Wednesday we're STILL Channel League Champs! I hope I feel better by Wednesday, but if I don't I will for sure by playoff time.
We'll have more details including the scoring and stats tomorrow.
