Section Report: Most Scores
From Wednesday--(February 5, 1998)
What is it about some of the LAUSD schools that they can't seem to report their scores. If we could be everywhere at once, or were ominipresent, (you mean we aren't?) then we'd be able to report all the scores from yesterday. But were not, and we can't. So we'll have to wait for a couple of them. But here are the rest. And as usual, we'll be sending up some articles from the games we saw, and from those on which we've received reports, and even some highlights on most taken from the daily newspapers where that's our last resort.
As you check through these scores you'll see some things which were expected, and some which were big surprises. For example, Cleveland beat winless Kennedy; no surprise there. Taft continues to roll. El Camino won in what has to be considered an upset over Birmingham which has been playing pretty well lately. San Fernando continues to win big. Hamilton beat Manual Arts. Wow, gotta find out about that one. Uni and Pali, as usual don't report their scores. Gott call Pelino to find out. Another "upset"? Fairfax, limping along beats Deon "Popeye" Green and Leroy "Mr. 3" Watson. Is Joe Shipp back? Gotta know. Westchester takes McGowan to school again. Don't know a thing about Verdugo or Hollywood, or Wilson or Belmont for that matter. Monroe, a surprise in league play, beats Canoga to stay close in Pac-8 play. Grant all but assures itself of the league title by beating NoHo, despite all the pub which Keron has been getting from us and the times. We knew you could do it Adir! Sylmar and its crew, including Buckley transfer George Wrighster beat up on 1-18 Van Nuys, but only by 8 points. Reseda keeps getting better and better and beats Poly. Congrats to Dave Enowitz--you're doing something right. And the rest were pretty much expected wins: Fremont over Garfield, no surprise there, Carson over Narbonne, San Pedro over Banning, Washington beating Gardena--nope, no upsets there. And Crenshaw just destroys its latest league opponent Dorsey. Looks like Westchester and the Shaw getting ready to square off in 4-A.
