Bakersfield Report: One In and One Out--(February 25, 1998)
Here's a brief note on Bakersfield playoff action which is just getting underway in the Central Section. Two game were supposed to be played (well, probably a lot more, but this is all we got.) But only one was played. Check it out:
Senior Ruben Saldana scored a career-high 17 points to lead the Delano High School boys basketball team to a 63-58 victory over Madera in a Central Section Division I outbracket playoff game on Monday. The victory means Delano is now seeded No. 15 and travels to Bakersfield High to face the Drillers on Wednesday at 7 p.m. Mario Lopez added 13 points and D.J. Jimenez and Billy Mamaril each had 10 points for Delano. Saldana scored eight points in the second quarter, when Delano outscored Madera 23-14 to lead 34-25 at halftime. Madera tied the game at 56-56 with 1:52 remaining, but Jimenez hit three free throws to keep Madera at bay.
Meanwhile, Stockdale got a break. The Stockdale High boys basketball team's scheduled playoff opener Monday at home against Redwood was canceled whenthe Rangers decided to pull out of the tournament. Stockdale will now play Wednesday at top-seeded Clovis West.
